The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Head.

The Department is currently home to 31 tenure stream faculty - with nationally ranked research strengths in applied analysis, combinatorics, logic, and the mathematics of finance - and 9 teaching track faculty. The Department has roughly 50 doctoral students, and there are nearly 400 undergraduate mathematics majors. The Department houses Carnegie Mellon’s Center for Nonlinear Analysis and is a key participant in Carnegie Mellon’s interdisciplinary Masters of Science in Computational Finance program. The next Department Head is expected to provide dynamic leadership of the unit, leverage the many existing connections with the wider Carnegie Mellon campus community, maintain our entrepreneurial outlook, and be an articulate and vigorous spokesperson for the importance of Mathematics in the University’s scientific and educational missions. Serving a renewable five-year term, the next Department Head will have an appointment as a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a very closely related disciple, a significant mathematical reputation, and demonstrated effective leadership of faculty, students, and staff.
