We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will perform research in numerical methods or kinetic equations and related models. This position resides in the Computational and Applied Mathematics Group in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division (CSM), Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate (CCSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

As part of our research team, you will develop and analyze hybrid algorithms for multiscale particle systems.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Algorithm development and numerical analysis

• Coding and implementation

• Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team

• Preparation and presentation of results in open literature journals and technical reports and at relevant conferences

Basic Qualifications:

• A PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline completed within the last five years

• Basic programming skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with high performance computing

• Familiarity with kinetic equations and / or their applications (e.g. radiation, plasmas, dilute gases)

• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in English to a scientific audience

• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative and frequently interacting teams of researchers

• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

Other Information:

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
