Position Description:    

The University of Hawaii at Hilo, College of Natural & Health Sciences (CNHS), Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, general funds, nine-month appointment to begin August 2020, pending position clearance and availability of funding. 

Duties 
The successful candidate will be 
  • a high-quality teacher in lower- and upper-level undergraduate courses in the mathematics department;
  •  contribute to the data science program; 
  • engage in mathematics research, preferably with undergraduate involvement; 
  • engage in curriculum development; advise and mentor students; 
  • and participate in community, department, and university service. 
Minimum Qualifications 
  • Doctoral-level degree at the time of appointment from an accredited university in mathematics or statistics; 
  • evidence of at least one year of teaching at the university level; 
  • and evidence of active research in mathematics or a closely related field. 
Evidence of active research may be satisfied by authorship of refereed scholarly publications or arXiv preprints published within five years, or (in the case of current graduate students) dissertation chapters or manuscripts in preparation.  

Desirable Qualifications 
Evidence of: 
  • High-quality teaching in undergraduate courses in mathematics, statistics, or data science;
  • Research program with applications to data science; 
  • Departmental or university service. 
Experience with or interest in: 
  • teaching in a highly multicultural setting; 
  • engaging undergraduate students in mathematics or data-science related research;
  •  curriculum development; 
  • working with diverse student and community populations that reflect the University of Hawaiʻi’s Native Hawaiian and Pacific-islander serving mission.  
Pay Range 
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
