The Department of Mathematicsof the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine (FSTM) of the University of Luxembourg (UL) has an opening for an Assistant Professor in Mathematics (tenure track).

Full-time position (40 hrs/week)

Earliest starting date: September 2020

Fixed-term contract: 5 years, with tenure track.

In case of an excellent more senior candidate, appointment at the level of associate professor (tenured) can be considered

Your Role

The position at the Assistant Professor level follows Luxembourg’s tenure-track scheme, according to which the initial appointment is a fixed-term contract. Upon a successful evaluation, the candidate will be offered a permanent position as Associate Professor.

To diversify and reinforce the existing skills and expertise within the Department of Mathematics, the candidate is expected to:

Perform high level research

Apply for competitive third-party funding

Setup and manage a research group

Contribute to the teaching missions of the Department of Mathematics and to doctoral and postdoctoral training

Your Profile

The Department of Mathematics is seeking candidates in all areas of mathematics.

In particular, early to mid-stage researchers who have already demonstrated excellence or exceptional promise in the areas of algebra, combinatorics, geometry, mathematical physics, number theory or topology are encouraged to apply. Outstanding candidates in any other area of mathematics will also be considered. Candidates who bring expertise bridging current areas of research present in the university, or linking fundamental research to real-life applications will be viewed favourably.The successful candidate is expected to apply for joint and individual third-party funding (such as calls of the Luxembourg FNR, or of the European ERC program). Evidence of this ability (as portrayed by the candidate’s track record) will be a crucial selection criterion.
