The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne invites applications for a W2-professorship in Pure Mathematics with tenure track to W3. The position should be filled by the 30th of November 2020. This call is part of the Bund-Länder Programme for the Promotion of Young Researchers (WISNA). It is aimed at scientists in an early career phase.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vigorous, high-level research programme in the field of geometric analysis. The position should contribute towards strengthening the SFB TRR 191 "Symplectic Structures in Geometry, Algebra and Dynamics". The successful candidate should demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students in a variety of courses in the Mathematics, Economathematics and Computer Science and in the teacher training courses Mathematics BA/MA GyGe of the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science.

Excellent scientific achievements, an excellent convincing research programme, teaching competence and experience as well as the willingness to actively participate in the general tasks of academic administration are expected. Strong candidates are desired to have a record of attracting external funding to support research activity in mathematics. In addition, the recruitment requirements according to Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz – HG NRW) apply. No later than five years after the start of employment there will be a final evaluation in accordance with the Regulations for Quality Assurance in Tenure Track Procedures at the University of Cologne. The tenure decision for a permanent W3 professorship will be based on the results of this evaluation.
