Temporary Part-time Lecturer Pool in Mathematics

The College of Creative Studies (CCS) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach undergraduate courses in Mathematics during the 2020-2021 academic year. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the College and the availability of funding. Temporary appointment positions are variable in terms of percentage of time (33% to 100%) and may range from one quarter to one year, with the possibility of reappointment being dependent upon program needs and teaching performance. This is a non-tenure track, non-ladder, non-academic senate position. Ideally, one lecturer will be appointed to the position to teach in both Fall and Winter Quarters at 33%. For a fall quarter appointment, the service period will begin September 27, 2020; for a winter quarter appointment, the service period will begin January 4, 2021; and for a spring quarter appointment the service period will begin March 29, 2021. Salary is based on UC's salary scales and depends upon qualifications.

Responsibilities include teaching a range of proof-based courses to gifted students in the College of Creative Studies. Administrative duties may be assigned depending on department needs and could include advising undergraduates, and reading applications for admission into the college.

At a minimum, applicants are expected to have completed all requirements for a Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics except thesis (or equivalent) at the time of application. Applicants also must have a minimum of 1 year of mathematics teaching experience at the college level (Teaching Assistant experience is counted) by the time of application. Applicants must have completed a Masters Degree in Mathematics by the start date. Preferred qualifications are: a PhD in Mathematics, teaching experience in teaching proof-based material, applicants with broad training in mathematics, and strong interpersonal skills.
