Position Description:

The Computer Science program at Denison University invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions at the assistant professor or senior level to begin in August 2021. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field, or be close to doing so, by the start date. We are seeking energetic and dynamic teachers who are committed to teaching a variety of courses in the CS core curriculum and in creating new electives that complement our existing offerings. Candidates should be dedicated to teaching in a liberal arts setting, mentoring undergraduate students, and supervising their research projects. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the continued growth of the Department and the College, and maintain a strong scientific research program in any CS specialty or related field.

Computer Science at Denison attracts about a hundred total majors. In addition, our courses support a growing number of other majors and concentrations, and we will soon be moving to a larger departmental space that will allow us to continue to expand and innovate. Recently, Department members were instrumental in establishing a unique interdisciplinary Data Analytics (DA) program and have authored two new textbooks to support the CS major courses that are also required for DA.

Denison’s BA and BS degrees in CS emphasize core principles and interdisciplinary connections. We embrace interdisciplinarity especially in our introductory course, which we offer in a variety of “flavors,” each with project work in a different domain. Current offerings focus on applications in the sciences and social sciences, and faculty are encouraged to design new flavors to encourage broader engagement with Computer Science. We also encourage interdisciplinarity in our electives, recent examples of which include Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence, and Game Design.

Denison offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package; for more details, please see the faculty handbook, hosted at In addition, Denison supports research and teaching with professional development funds of $5,000 per year for the first three years, and $3,000 per year thereafter. Pending a successful third year review, junior faculty are also entitled to a one semester leave. The current CS teaching load is 9 courses every 2 years (i.e., faculty typically teach a 2-2-2-3 load over four semesters).
