The Department of Mathematical Sciences is inviting applications for an appointment to two Lecturer positions in Applied Mathematics. We are seeking applicants that will enhance and extend our current strengths in the modern applications of mathematics.

For the first position, we will prioritise applicants working in applied mathematics, with specific preference to researchers in continuum mechanics, mathematical modelling and/or industrial applications of mathematics. For the second position we will prioritise applicants working in the mathematical aspects of machine learning and/or data science (including inverse problems, signal/image processing, and/or optimisation). You will have shown the potential for achieving and sustaining a leading research programme, and be active in developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding. You should also have a commitment to pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and in supervising graduate students.

The Department has over 70 academic staff from all areas of Mathematics. You will be part of the research group in Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics (AIMS). Our Department emphasises the unity of Mathematics and there are strong interactions between research groups. Impact is achieved through a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects, and industrial collaborations. These activities are supported by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa), which has currently over 70 PhD students. In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI), promotes, and supports, cross-campus research activities, industrial, and international collaborations, in all areas of mathematics and statistics. Various research centres such as the Centre for Mathematical Biology, the Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data, the Centre for Networks and Collective Behaviour, and the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics, provide focus in interdisciplinary collaborations

Alongside completion of the online application form, candidates should upload:

* a full Curriculum Vitae * a statement of research interests of up to three pages, also explaining how their work would strengthen, and expand the existing activity at Bath * a one-page summary of teaching experience and strategy Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides for a high quality of life, with good transport links to the rest of the UK and fast connections to Bristol and London.

Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly encouraged.
