Position Description:

Dr. David Goluskin seeks to hire one Postdoctoral Researcher to collaborate on the development of new optimization-based methods for studying nonlinear dynamics governed by ODEs and PDEs, as well as the application of these methods to fluid dynamical models. The methods being developed make use of convex optimization over polynomials to study a wide range of dynamical properties such as time averages, extrema, and stability. Computation is essential to the research, but analytical questions can be studied also. A PhD in applied mathematics or a closely related field is required by the start date. Applicants should have strong computational skills, as well as experience with some of the following topics:

Dynamical systems
Fluid dynamics or other nonlinear PDEs
Convex optimization

The anticipated start date is September 2021, but this is flexible. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Salary is expected to be at least 50,000 CAD annually, assuming teaching of one course per year. Teaching is not required, but there are opportunities to teach one or two courses per year for candidates with an appropriate background. Further funds will be provided for academic travel. Salary and other resources can be increased through fellowships; please contact Prof. Goluskin ( as soon as possible to pursue these options. If possible, apply by November 15 in order to be considered for the PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowship, which provides significant additional funding.

Please apply through Include a brief cover letter describing relevant experience, a CV that includes a publication list, a research statement, and three reference letters. Applications are reviewed on a continuous basis and will be accepted until the position is filled.
