Position Description:

*** this position has been closed. ***

We invite applications for two Postdoctoral Research Associates in Special Holonomy to work with Professor Jason Lotay on exciting new projects, in conjunction with the Simons Collaboration on Special Holonomy in Geometry, Analysis and Physics. Both positions are fixed-term for two years, and the post-holders will be based at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.

The Simons Collaboration is an international network of leading experts in the field, with 14 principal investigators as well as several postdoctoral fellows and PhD students, which seeks to advance the theory and applications of spaces with special holonomy and related geometric structures. The post-holders will perform and manage their own mathematical research and administrative activities for projects in special holonomy and related activities, under the supervision of Professor Jason Lotay, write up the results for publication either singly or with co-authors, and participate in the activities of the Geometry research group and the Simons Collaboration on Special Holonomy.

You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, and have experience in areas relevant to the study of special holonomy. These areas may include special holonomy metrics, calibrated submanifolds, instantons and monopoles, and geometric flows (particularly Lagrangian mean curvature flow and the G2-Laplacian flow). You will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings, including those of the Simons Collaboration.

Please direct informal enquiries about the recruitment process to the Recruitment Coordinator using the email address below, quoting vacancy reference 147884.

Please note that applicants will be selected for interview purely based on their ability to satisfy the selection criteria outlined in the attached job description. You will be required to upload a letter setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae including full list of publications, a statement of research interests and the contact details of two referees as part of your online application (NOTE: Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are received by the closing date).

Only applications received before 12.00 noon on Friday 20 November 2020 can be considered. Interviews will be taking place on Thursday 3 December 2020.
