Rice University The Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAAM) at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for postdoctoral positions focused on deep learning, inverse problems and applications in Earth and planetary sciences under the supervision of Professor Maarten de Hoop. There are several open positions some of which are funded by the Simons foundation. Candidates must have obtained a PhD preceding the start date of appointment in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related fields, and have a strong background and record of accomplishment in the analysis of mathematics, inverse problems, machine learning and/or statistics. These research positions do not come with teaching responsibilities, but teaching opportunities will be available should the postdoctoral researchers desire. Term of appointment will be two years with competitive salary and benefits and possibility of one additional year contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance. The term of appointment may commence anytime on or after July 1, 2021. Applications should consist of a letter of application, a current and detailed curriculum vitae, a research statement describing their accomplishments and interests and a list of publications. In addition, at least three letters of recommendation should be submitted.
