Applications are invited for one postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University. The initial term of the appointment would be for one year, with the potential for renewal pending adequate progress and continued availability of funding. Research responsibilities: We are seeking applicants with a strong background in applied dynamical systems and/or data science and scientific computing. The scholar will work with Dr. Mohammad Farazmand (www.mfarazmand.com) on data-driven modeling and analysis of dynamical systems, with a special emphasis on prediction and mitigation of extreme events with applications to rogue waves, extreme weather events, turbulence, epileptic seizure, etc. Teaching responsibilities: The scholar is expected to teach one course per year. The particular course is assigned by the department after close consultation with the scholar. Requirements: The applicants must have a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field (e.g., physics, mechanical engineering or computer science).
