Southern Methodist University is seeking one postdoctoral researcher to work within the Research Training Group, "RTG: Modeling and Computations for Complex Systems at Southern Methodist University”, funded by the National Science Foundation https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1840260&HistoricalAwards=false. Postdocs will work within one of three vertically-integrated research groups, each of which partners SMU mathematicians with scientists in other disciplines:

Computation-enabled investigations into circuits and cognition (partnering with UT Southwestern Medical Center neuroscientists)

Nonlinear dynamics and the modeling of large systems (partnering with DOE)

Modeling complex transport processes in nanoscale manufacturing (partnering with SMU Engineering)

Applicants should state his/her topic preference in the research statement. Only US Citizens, nationals and permanent residents are eligible for these positions. Candidates with a background in computational and/or applied mathematics are encouraged to apply; candidates in pure mathematics with computational and modeling experience should also consider applying. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from women and underrepresented minorities. In their cover letter, applicants should include a short statement indicating the research group with which they wish to affiliate.

In addition to research, postdoctoral scholars will do some teaching (1 or max. 2 courses per year) and assist in running a 2-week summer school for undergrad and graduate students. The appointments will be for 3 years and have a flexible start date. We will start evaluating applications on 02/15/2020 and will maintain the search open until the position is filled.
