Department of Mathematics, Clinical Operational Research Unit, London.

Lecturer in Operational Research

Full Time :

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £44,737 - £52,764 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Clinical Operational Research Unit (CORU), part of The Department of Mathematics at UCL, invites applications from candidates for Lecturer in Operational Research.

The responsibilities of the post will include: carrying out vigorous, high-level research in the area of operational research, submitting publications regularly in refereed journals; participating in local seminars and in national and international conferences; contributing to the teaching of courses and supervision of projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level; leading curriculum development of new course modules covering aspects of operational research.

CORU is a research-intensive unit with a large grant portfolio. Current research programmes include research on outcomes and service delivery for people living with congenital heart disease; health protection; embedding researchers within healthcare organisations; using mathematical modelling and operational research to support health services.

CORU is now looking to consolidate its operational research and teaching activities to support a growing research programme and the thriving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activity within the wider Department of Mathematics. CORU’s extensive network of collaborators provide an exciting opportunity for appointees to undertake impactful, high quality research. In particular, we are hoping new staff can strengthen our operational research capacity in applying the following methods to real world health care problems: optimization, queuing theory, agent-based modelling and development of decision support tools.

The post is available immediately.

The successful candidate will have an established or developing track record of independent research excellence in Operational Research applied to health services of international standing and working with non-academic stakeholders to maximise impact.

They are expected to have experience of teaching of Mathematics at University level and excellent oral and written communication skills. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience of course development in Operational Research and of interdisciplinary research collaborations.
