Gordon College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Mathematics. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The position begins August 2021.

Located on Boston’s North Shore, Gordon College is dedicated to a strong Christian liberal arts perspective in all its majors. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has about 100 students and seven full-time faculty positions. Our students can major in Mathematics and/or Computer Science, and we offer minors in both areas as well as Data Science. We are a collegial department with a tradition of student research and industry projects, as well as excellent working relationships with other departments on campus. Our alumni take a wide variety of positions from teaching to the local technology industry, from risk assessment to graduate school in the mathematical sciences.

A candidate for this position should have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a closely related field by the time of appointment and be committed to high-quality teaching at all levels. Additionally we seek an individual who desires to further our department's tradition of strong mentoring relationships for its students and demonstrates the potential for a sustained research program involving student work. A demonstrated interest in sharing the outworkings of a committed Christian faith in vocation is essential, as is the ability to engage with the full cultural and church diversity of our students, who come from many backgrounds in New England, in the United States, and internationally.

The expected teaching load is of 8 courses per year or load equivalent (semester system with option of teaching during summer term). It will include service courses (such as those for preservice teachers or introductory statistics) and courses for the major including advanced courses in the faculty member’s area of specialization, ideally complementing current faculty expertise in algebra, probability, and computational and applied mathematics.

Interested applicants should submit a Curriculum Vita that includes the names of 3 references, a sample of academic writing, and a letter of application that addresses their fit with the Christian mission of Gordon College and with the specific position.
