Eastern Oregon University (EOU) seeks a dynamic teacher to fill a tenure-track position in Data Analytics beginning in the fall of 2021. This is a nine-month tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank with a teaching load of approximately 36 quarter credits per year and a service load of 9 credits per year. During the first year there will be release time for development of courses for a new Data Analytics major.

Appointment begins September 16, 2021.

Data Analytics is a new program at Eastern Oregon University. The objective of the program is to provide students with quantitative, analytic, and programming skills as well as the practical experience necessary to succeed in an industrial or governmental career in data analysis. The new Data Analytics program is housed in in EOU’s Department of Mathematics.

The mathematics program at EOU has three primary objectives: • To provide a major in mathematics that develops the attitude of mind and analytical skills required for effective use and understanding of mathematics. • To provide a major which prepares students for a variety of career choices, including graduate study, industrial and business careers, and secondary school teaching. Within teaching, more generally, to prepare highly qualified teachers of mathematics for elementary, middle and secondary schools. • To provide the necessary mathematical and statistical support courses for students in other disciplines, including computer science, physical and biological sciences, social science, business and economics, and health.

Candidates should demonstrate: • Effective quality teaching and assessment in both in-person and online modalities, • Effectiveness in applying technology to teaching, • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, administration, and personnel from university partners; • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities: Responsible for developing and teaching courses for a new Data Analytics major. The teaching assignment will consist of courses in data analytics, statistics, and mathematics, a portion of which will be taught online. Interest and ability to maintain connections with regional partners in order to provide research opportunities for data analytics students is required.

Minimum Qualifications: -Ph.D. in Statistics is preferred, though a Ph.D. in a related field (such as Mathematics or Applied Mathematics) will be considered if accompanied by evidence of experience related to the practice and/or teaching of data analytics. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) may be considered.

-Demonstrated successful experience teaching undergraduate-level university mathematics classes.

-Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with extensive experience teaching and developing online courses will be given particular consideration, as will candidates with demonstrated experience in leading undergraduate research in areas of data analysis. Experience in working with first generation and/or under-prepared students is also preferred.
