Research areas and type of positionThe candidate’s research shall concern at least one of the following areas: • geometric measure theory, • geometric analysis, • elliptic partial differential equations, and • calculus of variations. The position yields the opportunity to conduct an independent research programme without teaching duties; it is supervised by Ulrich Menne (see <https://math.ntnu.edu.tw/~menne/>). Possible present or future connections to his research are appreciated. Related research in TaipeiApart of the National Taiwan Normal University, the research environment in Taipei comprises the National Taiwan University, the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS), and the Academia Sinica. In particular through the involvement of the NCTS, joint activities in various combinations – such as the NCTS international Geometric Measure Theory seminar (see <http://www.ncts.tw/gmt-seminar.html>) and the NCTS Differential Geometry seminar (see <http://www.ncts.tw/events_seminars_detail.php?gid=309>) – yield a steady exposure to progress in these research areas. Benefits of living in Taiwan(R.O.C.)Concerning daily life, Taiwan is known for its • friendly atmosphere, • convenient transportation, • excellent hiking opportunities, • successful epidemic control, • high-quality health-care at low prices, and • affordable living costs (for Taipei, see <https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/taipei>). For expatriates, Taiwan is routinely ranked as one of the top places worldwide to live in (see <https://www.internations.org/expat-insider/2019/best-and-worst-places-for-expats-39829>). Salary of the positionThe annual gross salary will be determined, depending on level of research quality and experience, according to the NTNU payment scheme in the range NTD 763,830 to 1,056,038; it is paid in 13.5 monthly salaries.
