The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an Open Rank Teaching Professor position, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. The appointment can be tenured at the associate or full level, or tenure-track assistant teaching professor level. The emphasis of this position is statistical methodology, computation, and data literacy. The Department is looking for individuals with a record in teaching excellence and innovation in teaching methods who will play a strong role in managing the curriculum & pedagogy of the department. Expertise in teaching courses on statistical modeling, computation, and data science methods, including Python, R, SQL, and cloud platforms is preferred.

The Department comprises 20 permanent faculty members, as well as more than ten visitors and postdocs. We offer majors in Statistics and Data Science, Financial Mathematics and Statistics, and Actuarial Science, as well as a minor in Statistical Science with total undergraduate enrollment of over 1500 students. Responsibilities of teaching-track faculty include teaching and teaching related tasks for lower and upper division undergraduate courses; mentorship of undergraduate students including supervision of student group capstone projects; professional and/or scholarly achievement and creative activity, particularly relating to instruction and pedagogy; and participation in university service. Faculty in this title are members of the Academic Senate, with benefits and privileges that parallel the professor track.

All applicants must have a PhD in Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline at the time of application. Candidates wishing to be considered for a tenured appointment must have at least 5 years of undergraduate teaching experience with a wide range of courses taught. Candidates wishing to be considered for a tenure-track appointment must have a record of teaching potential. All candidates should have a record of collaborative activity and should be able to contribute to the improvement of the undergraduate experience in the department and division.
