The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics ( at Umeå University is seeking a postdoctoral fellow in generalization theory of deep neural networks. The fellowship is for two years full time with starting date September 1, 2021, or by agreement.

We welcome applicants who wish to pursue any direction within generalization theory of deep neural networks, though we will prioritize research that aims to derive tight and rigorous estimates of generalization error that are data specific and/or model specific. Generalization theory is a branch of deep learning that aims to quantify how well – and under what circumstances – a model can generalize from a training set to previously unseen examples.

This postdoctoral fellowship is financed by The Kempe Foundations with a stipend of 312 000 SEK (ca $37,500) per year. Stipends are normally tax-exempt in Sweden.
