Dickinson College invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position, with the possibility of transition to a tenure-track position, beginning in the fall semester 2021. The applicant will contribute primarily to the college’s growing curriculum in data analytics. Applicants are expected to have an ongoing research program in data science and to hold, at the time of appointment, a Ph.D. in a field that employs data science. Applicants must have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, an appreciation for the intellectual community of a liberal arts college, and the ability to work with a diverse student body.

The teaching load for the academic year is five course equivalents and could include courses such as Introduction to Data Science, Introduction to Computing, Elementary Statistics, and other courses related to data science. Applicants who can teach advanced data analytics courses in areas such as database systems, data mining, and machine learning are especially encouraged to apply. The position will likely be housed within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Dickinson College is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with approximately 2,200 students. It is located in historic Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which is 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. The college is committed to developing a new program in data analytics, building on our existing strengths in statistics, applied computation and other disciplines. The faculty prides itself on fostering meaningful student/faculty interactions, implementing innovative teaching pedagogy, and promoting student/faculty research. Institutional support for research, travel to conferences, and professional development is available.

The college is committed to building a representative and diverse faculty, administrative staff, and student body. The candidate should address their ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body in their cover letter or optional diversity statement. We encourage applications from all qualified persons.

Applications must be submitted electronically at https://jobs.dickinson.edu/postings/5624. Applications must include a cover letter, CV, statement on teaching philosophy, copies of graduate transcripts, and no more than three letters of recommendation, at least two of which address the candidate’s teaching experience. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; those received by February 10, 2021, will be guaranteed full consideration.
