The Department of Mathematics at Indiana University Bloomington https://math.indiana.edu/index.html seeks applications for a non-tenure-track Lecturer who will serve as Mathematics Basic Skills Coordinator. The position begins August 1, 2021. Applicants must have mathematics training equivalent to that required for the Masters’ degree, with Ph.D. preferred. A minimum of three years’ experience in mathematics instruction in a college, university, or comparable setting such as Advanced Placement or ACP is required. Preferred experience includes the following: acquaintance with US high-school mathematics standards; leading and mentoring mathematics instructors; familiarity with best practices in mathematics pedagogy; curriculum design; mathematics placement; familiarity with best practices related to diversity and inclusivity in mathematics instruction.

The nominal teaching load for a Lecturer in mathematics is six courses per academic year. Faculty receive course reductions for course coordination and administrative service. In addition to instruction, responsibilities are expected to include one or more of the following: administrative duties, including supervision and coordination of algebra, precalculus, or trigonometry courses; maintenance and calibration of placement exams and criteria; placement recommendations and advising for high-need non-mathematics majors; training of Associate Instructors by the teaching of pedagogy courses; serving as liaison to other campus units and programs, including Academic Support Centers, Student Academic Centers, and Peer-Assisted Study Services. This is a 12-month position. Summer responsibilities include coordination support, program evaluation, curriculum development, and support for dual-credit workshops. The initial appointment will be for three years.
