Emerging Scholars Preceptor

Position Description: The Department of Mathematics seeks applications for a Preceptor in Mathematics half of whose duties will be around working with Emerging Scholars, with a substantial amount of time spent on mentoring and advising. The Harvard College Emerging Scholars Program is an academic enrichment and mentorship program that seeks to support STEM-interested students who are enrolled in introductory calculus. The broader goals of the program are to increase diversity, inclusion, and belonging in STEM. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2021. The Preceptor will be responsible for teaching one course each semester generally at the single variable calculus level as well as doing a substantial amount of administrative and mentoring and advising work, particularly around our Emerging Scholars Program. The position is for an initial appointment of three years and may exceptionally be renewed for another three years, contingent on performance curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean approval.

Basic Qualifications: The successful applicant should have an advanced degree in mathematics, a record of excellence in teaching introductory courses in undergraduate mathematics, and a passion for working with the target population.

Additional Qualifications: Applicants should have a sophisticated understanding of undergraduate teaching, learning, and curricular issues. Successful candidates will have experience in mentorship.
