Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin, Fac­ulty II - Math­em­at­ics and Nat­ural Sci­ences, cur­rently has a vacancy at the Insti­tute of Math­em­at­ics for a

ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship – salary grade W1, fixed term, to be con­tin­ued as a life­time profess­or­ship, salary grade W3

in "Math­em­at­ics - Algeb­raic and Geo­met­ric Meth­ods in Data Ana­lysis".

Work­ing field: The pos­i­tion requires research and teach­ing in one area of Algeb­raic and Geo­met­ric Meth­ods in Data Ana­lysis. The area of research expert­ise should allow cooper­a­tions with the cur­rent pro­fess­ors at the Insti­tute of Math­em­at­ics as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in cur­rent and future col­lab­or­at­ive research activ­it­ies. Act­ive par­ti­cip­a­tion in the „Ber­lin Inter­na­tional Gradu­ate School in Model and Sim­u­la­tion based Research“ (BIMoS) and the Ber­lin Math­em­at­ical School (BMS) is also anti­cip­ated. Teach­ing will be required in all math­em­at­ical degree pro­grams (includ­ing under­gradu­ate) and in the ser­vice teach­ing of math­em­at­ics for other pro­grams. Teach­ing require­ments should be met in Ger­man and Eng­lish. Can­did­ates are expec­ted to super­vise stu­dents’ theses on Bach­elor and Mas­ter level as well as to par­ti­cip­ate in the aca­demic admin­is­tra­tion of the uni­versity.

Require­ments: The can­did­ate must ful­fill the hir­ing require­ments pur­su­ant to Sec­tion 102c Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act in com­bin­a­tion with Sec­tion 102a Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act. Of par­tic­u­lar import­ance are a uni­versity degree in Math­em­at­ics or a related sub­ject, a strong aptitude for research demon­strated, as a rule, by an out­stand­ing doc­tor­ate in Math­em­at­ics as well as teach­ing skills demon­strated by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion about the port­fo­lio, see Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin’s web­site, quick access 144242).

Can­did­ates must have an already inter­na­tion­ally vis­ible pro­file in the area of algeb­raic and geo­met­ric meth­ods in data ana­lysis and have research res­ults that have been pub­lished in ref­er­eed journ­als. Exper­i­ence in the applic­a­tion for grant pro­pos­als and in col­lab­or­at­ive research is appre­ci­ated.

Applic­ants must show first teach­ing exper­i­ence at uni­versity level. First exper­i­ence in advising and super­vising Bach­elor and Mas­ter stu­dents is expec­ted. Exper­i­ence in aca­demic admin­is­tra­tion is appre­ci­ated.

TU Ber­lin expects from its pro­fess­ors the abil­ity to take respons­ib­il­ity for lead­er­ship and stra­tegic devel­op­ment of their research group and their employ­ees. That includes activ­it­ies in pro­mot­ing junior and female research­ers, gender and diversity com­pet­en­cies in the sense of diversity sens­it­ive work­ing and study con­di­tions, sub­stan­tial impulses in research and teach­ing as well as con­tri­bu­tion to aca­demic admin­is­tra­tion. Inter­dis­cip­lin­ary cooper­a­tions, ini­ti­at­ives in sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion as well as sci­ence and tech­no­logy trans­fer are very wel­come. As uni­versity with an inter­na­tional pro­file, we expect good know­ledge of the Eng­lish lan­guage. Non-Ger­man speak­ing applic­ants are expli­citly wel­come while expec­ted to learn Ger­man quickly.
