5-10 POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS, MATHEMATICS

starting on September 1st, 2021 or as agreed for a fixed term of 1-4 years. 

Qualifications we are looking for

We invite prospective candidates to apply for these positions, which will involve research related to one or more research groups of mathematical analysis and geometry, stochastic analysis, as well as inverse problems. See the detailed descriptions of the research groups at our department's web page.

Strong preference will be given to candidates whose research interests overlap and/or complement the main research areas of the department. The Postdoctoral Researchers are expected to focus on scientific research, but also to participate in teaching within their own areas of expertise. The amount of teaching duties is rather small. 

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of Postdoctoral Researchers are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Teaching and research staff are required to master the language in which they teach. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial.

We are looking for the most promising researchers who have recently completed their doctoral degree or are about to complete it. For the position of Postdoctoral Researcher, a PhD degree is required by the starting date of the contract.

The annual salary range will be approximately 40,000 EUR for the Postdoctoral Researcher (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The main research areas in the department are mathematical analysis and geometry, stochastics, inverse problems, and statistics with their applications. In mathematical analysis and geometry the research is focused on geometric analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations, and geometry of metric groups. In stochastics the key research area is stochastic analysis. The research group in Inverse problems focuses its research on inverse problems in geometry and partial differential equations. These have applications e.g. in medical and industrial imaging. In statistics the areas of research are computational statistics, causal models, design, nonparametric and robust multivariate methods, biometry, and environmental statistics. The department is a member of the networks of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Inverse Problems.
