The IOTA Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in 2017 and headquartered in Berlin, Germany. The Foundation’s mission is to drive the development and standardization of new distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) that enable permissionless innovation ecosystems. To realize this potential the IOTA Foundation is actively building a collaborative of developers, start-ups, private enterprises, and government, civil society and academic institutions. Concretely, we engage in engineering, research and community organizing efforts around the IOTA Tangle – a new generation of DLT specifically designed to be the open and free trust layer for the Internet-of-Things (IoT). Mission: As a (Senior) Research Scientist you will help to deliver IOTA’s vision by conducting independent research, collaborating with other researchers and engineers, and clearly communicating research results. You would be one of IOTA’s links to academia, by communicating IOTA’s challenges to academics and applying theoretical academic research to IOTA’s technology. Responsibilities: - Start and conduct IOTA research projects, from start to finish, both individually and within a team - Publish articles in top journals with other researchers - Understand and follow IOTA and DLT related research projects - Manage collaborations with researchers and students in academia - Evaluate both internal and external research - Produce high quality written reports - Serve as an adviser on Engineering projects, ensuring theoretical soundness and providing oversight - Represent IOTA in conferences, community events, and online - Learn and be receptive to new ideas and feedback Requirements Your personality - You exhibit excellent interpersonal skills - You have an academic mindset - You consider yourself inquisitive and creative - You are independent, self-driven, and have the initiative to begin new projects Your expertise - PhD. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Postdoctoral experience is preferred - Conducted research in a DLT related field such as Distributed Systems, Networking, Cryptography, Graph Algorithms, or Probability Theory - 1-3 years of experience in a high-level programming language (Python/Java/C#/Ruby/MATLAB). Must be able to program scientific simulations and analyze their results.
