The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at Umeå University, Sweden, is advertising a tenure-track position that will give junior researchers the opportunity to develop a long-term research activity and to qualify for promotion to an Associate Professorship. The position is open to any applicant with a PhD in a relevant subject awarded no more than about five years ago, with exemptions made for applicants with extended periods of parental leave, sick leave, etc. We welcome applicants from any field within mathematics and mathematical statistics. We currently conduct research in computational mathematics, discrete mathematics , mathematical modelling (primarily in biology, evolution of cooperation, ecology, and finance), analysis (real and complex, including PDEs), and mathematical statistics including data science and optimization. Umeå offers excellent working and living conditions. The successful applicant would typically have to teach 1-2 courses per year and supervise 1-3 masters theses. The remaining time can be used freely for independent research and competence development. The position comes with discretionary funds that can be used for travel, inviting guest researchers, etc. We also guarantee the opportunity to appoint a PhD student within the first three years. The working environment is international and very family friendly, as exemplified by a generous allotment of 480 days paid parental leave for each child.
