The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Southwestern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2022. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Statistics or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be completed by August 23, 2022. Southwestern seeks dedicated teacher-scholars that can
consistently demonstrate excellence in teaching while also developing a
research program that results in peer-reviewed achievement. Typical
teaching responsibilities include five courses per academic year (either a 3-2
or 2-3) and includes multiple sections of the same course. In addition, faculty participate
in university service, engage in academic advising and retention initiatives,
and exhibit a dedication to equity and inclusiveness. In line with Southwestern
University’s commitment to diversity, the department is especially interested
in attracting candidates from underrepresented groups and/or those with
demonstrated commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and belonging in STEM. Successful applicants
will demonstrate a commitment to pursuing excellence in teaching statistics in
a liberal arts environment, the ability to develop and teach courses for the
Data Science minor, and a willingness to foster undergraduate research. All
research areas will be considered. Ideal candidates will share an interest in
Southwestern’s interdisciplinary approach to education known as Paideia.
