The Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of discrete mathematics in a broad sense.  The candidate is expected to contribute to synergistically bridging important theoretical developments in discrete mathematics and vibrant emerging mathematical foundations in Data Science. Areas of interest include extremal and probabilistic combinatorics, combinatorial geometry, graphs and hypergraphs, random graphs and complex networks, and their applications in data science, network science, computer science, and bioinformatics.

The successful candidate is expected to teach on all levels and, in particular, Discrete Math and Graph Theory courses at the graduate level in the Department of Mathematics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, an outstanding research record, a commitment to effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a demonstrated potential for excellence in both research and teaching.

The Mathematics Department (http://www.math.sc.edu/), located in the heart of the historic campus, currently has 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 instructors, 46 graduate students, over 180 majors, and 40 minors. Faculty research interests include algebra, analysis, applied and computational mathematics, constructive approximation, discrete mathematics, geometry, mathematical biology, mathematical education, and number theory.
