The School of Mathematical and Data Sciences at West Virginia University invites applications for two tenure-track, benefits eligible, nine-month positions at the rank of assistant professor starting August 2022. We seek candidates with evidence of excellent research, teaching and mentoring ability, and with potential for establishing externally funded research programs. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester.

The successful candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field at the time of employment. We welcome applicants from both pure and applied areas of mathematics that align with our current strengths, including Combinatorics and Graph Theory, Applied Analysis and Computation, and Algebra. We especially encourage applications from candidates with a track record of applied work and with potential for interdisciplinary collaborations. The School of Mathematical and Data Sciences offers excellent collaboration opportunities in mathematical biology, fluid dynamics, image processing, and within the new Data Science program. Mathematics faculty have also been engaged in strong collaborations with the WVU theoretical physics program and with the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

The Department of Mathematics includes 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty, several postdoctoral researchers, about 65 graduate students, and offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees in Mathematics. WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area. Morgantown has been recognized as one of the most livable small cities in the U.S. There are extensive recreational opportunities, excellent public schools, and a supportive University environment in which to develop a visible and productive career.
