Position Description:    

The STEM Education Innovation & Research Institute (SEIRI) and the Department of Mathematical Sciences at IUPUI invite applications for a joint post-doctoral fellow in mathematics education, evaluation and assessment or related fields with experience in mathematics to begin January 1, 2022 or later, for a one- or two-year appointment.

Responsibilities include teaching three mathematics or math education courses per year, and the exploration of first-year retention and degree completion at IUPUI, especially as it relates to diversity in mathematics under the guidance and mentoring of math education faculty and the SEIRI Founding Executive Director. Important aspects of this work include assessing and evaluating student success in mathematics, as well as curricular and instruction activities and their effect on student success and persistence. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the intellectual vitality of the Mathematics Department and SEIRI through research activities, journal club and staff meeting attendance, and participation in grant proposal preparation and evaluation.

This fellowship is intended to mentor the successful candidate in program assessment and evaluation skills, as well as in grant writing/acquisition to prepare them to be competitive for a tenure-track assistant professor in mathematics education appointment in a mathematics department. An intended outcome of this appointment is to enhance the quality of the undergraduate mathematics courses in diversity and retention.

IUPUI is Indiana's urban research and academic health sciences campus. As one of the largest academic units on campus serving more than 13,000 students each year, the Department of Mathematical Sciences is central to the mission of IUPUI to advance the State of Indiana and the intellectual growth of its citizens to the highest levels. With 52 fulltime faculty in the department, we offer programs of study leading to Purdue University B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics, including a B.S. and M.S. in Math Education and in Applied Statistics. The Department also offers a Ph.D. degree in biostatistics in collaboration with the Department of Biostatistics in the Fairbanks School of Public Health.

Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate (at the time of appointment) in mathematics education, mathematics, statistics or related areas, a strong research record and plan, and the ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate level. Applicants will be expected to show an emerging track record of publications, and evidence collaborative inter)disciplinary research.
