Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 29, 2022. The department seeks engaging teacher-scholars who will inspire our undergraduate and graduate students, while complementing the research areas of the department. Applications from all areas of statistics and data science are encouraged. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience or desire to encourage and advise undergraduate and/or graduate students in research projects.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has a faculty of 36 members, with 6 tenured faculty of statistics. The department offers undergraduate programs in Statistics, Statistics with Actuarial Science concentration, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics Education. The department also offers a Master’s program in Applied Statistics and a collaborative Master’s program in Data Science. Required qualifications: Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing a doctorate degree in statistics or a statistics-related field by the start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than May 15, 2023; Ability to teach a broad range of statistics courses to students with diverse backgrounds and skills; Commitment and ability to maintain an active program of scholarship.

Preferred qualification: Experience or interest in directing students on research/independent study/applied projects.

The typical teaching load is twelve credits per semester (three classes with two preparations, including elementary statistics and advanced statistics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level). The successful candidate will be expected to: Teach effectively in a variety of courses, including service courses as well as those for the statistics undergraduate and graduate majors; Maintain appropriate research and scholarly activities in statistics and/or data science; Participate in updating and revising the department’s curriculum; Participate in ongoing departmental efforts to develop and implement equitable and inclusive teaching practices; Assist with student advising and program development; Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.
