About us 

The School of Mathematical Science has an exceptionally strong research presence across the spectrum of areas within Pure and Applied Mathematics and Statistics and is currently organised into seven research groups, namely: Algebra and Number Theory, Combinatorics, Complex Systems and Networks, Dynamical Systems and Statistical Physics, Geometry and Analysis, Probability and Applications, and Statistics and Data Science. The School also has large and popular undergraduate and graduate programmes. Moreover, the University is a partner of the Alan Turing Institute, facilitating exciting opportunities for collaborations with other academic institutions and industry. 

Following a period of significant growth, the School comprises 74 academic staff and associate lecturers, 16 research assistants and 12 members of professional services staff. The School is home to around 90 PhD students, and approximately 1,000 undergraduates and 100 master level students. 

About the role 
Applications are invited for a Lecturer in Optimisation. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate with a successful track record of applying rigorous research methods to address emerging problems in the general field of combinatorial optimisation. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research platform within the School and interact with one or more of the existing research groups in the School. We particularly welcome applicants who would complement existing expertise in the School's Combinatorics group. The successful candidate will have the ability and flexibility to teach across a wide range of topics in mathematics, including modules from the School’s portfolio of Data Science Masters programmes. 

All candidates should have a strong interest in pursuing excellence in teaching and supervising graduate students, and will have demonstrated exceptional potential for achieving research excellence. Pay & Benefits
The post is full-time and permanent, starting in January 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting will be in the range of £43,069 - £53,625 inclusive of London Allowance.
