The Mathematics Department at the City College of New York seeks a tenured Full Professor and Department Chair to lead a large urban mathematics department. The department has a strong research community, and has expertise in multiple research areas. The department's instructional mission includes addressing the needs of thousands of students, ranging from general-education students, to undergraduates majoring in engineering, science, and mathematics, as well as graduate students. 


The City College of New York is the flagship campus of the City University of New York system, the largest urban university system in the nation. The college has a diverse student body and a long tradition of training students who are the first in their families to attend college. CCNY has a graduate program in Mathematics at a Master’s degree level. Many CCNY Mathematics faculty teach and supervise doctoral-level mathematics students through appointments at the CUNY Graduate Center. The Professor and Chair will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or a related field.  The ideal candidate should have demonstrated a strong commitment to research and education in mathematics and a clear interest in leading a mathematics department in an institution with a diverse student body. Specifically, the research record must be consistent with appointment at the rank of Full Professor and the teaching experience should include both undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses. The area of mathematical research expertise is open and may be in any branch of pure or applied mathematics. At least ten years post-PhD experience in a mathematical research environment is required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
