IMSS Fellowships in Mathematical and Statistical Science Full time (Flexible and part-time working arrangements are available to those who need them) These posts are initially for 3-years research at UCL for talented early-career mathematicians to pursue an independent research programme. Salary: UCL Grade 8. The salary range will be £45,610 - £53,757 per annum , inclusive of London Allowance. Department of Mathematics & Department of Statistical Science London UCL is investing strategically in Mathematics and Statistical Science, with the vision of creating a world-leading Institute of Mathematical and Statistical Science (IMSS). As part of this exciting expansion, we are appointing Research Fellows across the range of disciplines of the two departments. In 2020 we appointed one Fellow in Pure Mathematics and one in Applied Mathematics; earlier this year we appointed two Fellows in Statistical Science. We now invite applications from outstanding postdoctoral researchers for Research Fellowships in Mathematics. Appointees will be expected to undertake high standard research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, data science, or pure or applied probability, leading to conference presentations and publication in leading journals. In addition, they will contribute to the research environment of the departments through interaction with staff and students and by participating in, and co-organising, IMSS events. A strictly limited amount of teaching will also be expected. There are three posts available: Two IMSS Fellowships in Pure Mathematics One IMSS Fellowship in Applied Mathematics (including Financial Mathematics) Each fellow will receive a fund of £9000 to support their research. The successful candidate must have a PhD in mathematics, statistics or related discipline and a track record of international research excellence and publishing in the relevant discipline. Normally candidates should, allowing for career breaks, have no more than six years’ postdoctoral research experience in an academic environment (calculated from the PhD viva to the application deadline). A written independent research plan will form part of the application and it will be advantageous if the proposed research is related to one of the departments’ research groups: · For pure mathematics: pure and applied analysis; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; probability. · For applied mathematics: mathematical modelling in biology, industry and society; applied and numerical analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; financial mathematics. The posts are available from 1 July 2022, and to be taken up as soon as possible thereafter.
