Research Fellow Full time Contract/Fixed Term: These posts are funded for 3 years in the first instance. Salary: UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £36,770 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Department of Mathematics London

The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society.

Applications are invited for two full-time Research Fellow positions in the analysis group at UCL. This project focuses on problems in in spectral and scattering geometry, especially those arising from high energy spectral asymptotics and from the Steklov problem. The project focuses on the study of spectral asymptotics both in the setting of scattering theory and compact manifolds using microlocal methods.

The responsibilities of the posts will include: carrying out vigorous, high-level research in the area of analysis, submitting publications regularly in refereed journals; participating in local seminars and in national and international conferences.

These posts are available from 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Candidates should either have a PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics, or should be finalising their PhD or waiting for their viva date.

The successful candidates are expected to have a proven track record in research and publishing, excellent grasp of analysis and geometry. As well as excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate participation in a research group, and excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

An outstanding candidate will show research experience in analysis and geometry, especially spectral and scattering geometry.

Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B, point 26 (salary £33,958 per annum inclusive of London allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
