The Department of Mathematics at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a three-year limited term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Statistics and/or Data Science, beginning May 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval. 

The Mathematics Department is a dynamic part of the Faculty of Science, with leading researchers in many fields, including interdisciplinary areas. The Department offers undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Financial Mathematics, an MSc in Mathematics, as well as new interdisciplinary programs in Data Science (BSc) and in Mathematical and Statistical Modelling (PhD). The successful candidate will help fulfill the teaching, research, and service mission of Wilfrid Laurier University and the Department of Mathematics. Duties include teaching at the undergraduate/graduate levels, contributing to program and course development, supervising students, attracting external research funding, conducting an independent research program, and contributing to the service needs of the Department and Laurier Community.

Qualifications for the position include a PhD in an area of the statistical or mathematical sciences. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in Statistics and/or Data Science. 

Successful candidates for the position must have:
  • Exceptional research potential including the ability (a) to publish in top-tier journals and (b) to maintain a highly productive independent research agenda. 
  • Ability to effectively teach Statistics and/or Data Science, courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Excellent communication skills and involvement in academic and professional activities.
  • A research program that is NSERC eligible.
