Postdoctoral Associates in Data Science & Machine Learning

 

The Department of Mathematics at the University of South Carolina is inviting applications of two postdoctoral associates in the area of mathematical foundations of data science and machine learning in a broader sense.  The candidates are expected to contribute to synergistically bridging important theoretical developments in mathematics and vibrant emerging mathematical foundations in Data Science/Machine Learning. A successful candidate is expected to teach two courses per year on all levels in the Department of Mathematics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics by the start date of employment, a demonstrated potential for excellence in both research and teaching.  Due to the restriction of NSF RTG grant, candidates must be citizens, nationals, or permanent residents of the United States or its territories and possessions.

The Mathematics Department (http://www.math.sc.edu/), located in the heart of the historic campus, currently has 33 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 10 instructors, 46 graduate students, over 180 majors, and 40 minors. Faculty research interests include algebra, analysis, applied and computational mathematics, constructive approximation, discrete mathematics, geometry, mathematical biology, mathematical education, and number theory.
