The Research Unit Applied Statistics (ASTAT) within the Institute of Statistics and Mathematical Methods in Economics, Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation at TU Wien, invites applications for a university assistant (assistant professor non-tenure track). This is a fixed 6 year term position for 40 hours/week. Expected starting date: September 2022.

Tasks:

  • Actively carry out research in areas of statistics or data science that align with or add on the research strengths in ASTAT and the institute, with a view to publication in influential and high-impact scholarly journals.
  • Develop research collaborations within the institute and the university.
  • Develop research collaborations nationally and internationally.
  • Teach statistics and data science courses to a range of audiences at the University and supervise students.
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research unit and the faculty.

Your profile:

  • The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning or Biostatistics, or a related area with a specialization or emphasis in statistics from an internationally recognized institution by the start of employment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and excellent English are required
  • Knowledge of German is desirable but not necessary

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,061.50/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
