The Department of Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for the Hearst Teaching Fellowship in Mathematics, beginning August 2023.

The Hearst Teaching Fellowship will be offered to candidates within six years of having received their PhD who show strong understanding of undergraduate teaching, learning, and curricular issues. Successful candidates will have the experience necessary to teach and develop a broad range of service courses using evidence-based methods.

Appointments are for three years. Appointees will be expected to teach four one-quarter courses per academic year, and to work side by side with other faculty on teaching, developing, and supporting undergraduate courses in mathematics. In addition, they may also pursue their own research program, including projects in mathematics education research, and participate in research projects in the department. Summer can be used for one-month vacation, research and other scholarly activities.

We will be interested in seeing a teaching portfolio, including a sample lesson plan, and a sample teaching video of an actual lesson.
