Applications are invited for two tenure-track Assistant Professorships in Computational and Applied Mathematics to begin in the fall semester of 2023. The department is searching for scholars with an outstanding research record in the mathematical foundations, algorithms, and/or applications of data science and machine learning, and who have a track record of interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidates should be committed to interdisciplinary research and inclusive teaching. These positions are part of a strategic cluster hire in Data Science and are two of the twelve positions allocated to the cluster around three areas of focus: Data Core, Health Analytics, and Technology and Education. The multi-faculty hire represents an ambitious program to develop large-scale collaborative research projects responding to some of humankind’s most daunting challenges. In particular, these two positions are associated with the Data Core group which also includes positions in Computer Science, Statistics, and Information Technology and Operations Management. Faculty are expected to teach in our data science programs and to collaborate with faculty, as appropriate in the other cluster areas.

The SMU Department of Mathematics offers graduate degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) in Computational and Applied Mathematics and has 19 tenured or tenure-track faculty with research in diverse application areas, many with collaborations both within and outside SMU.
