Job Description:
The Department of Mathematics at Weber State University (WSU) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Statistics/Data Science or Applied Mathematics, starting July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor and must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Job Duties:
The candidate will be expected to teach statistics or applied mathematics courses for Computational Statistics and Data Science majors and also support our interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Data Science. Teaching lower-division mathematics courses, such as Introduction to Statistics or Calculus, will be required, depending on departmental needs.

Required Qualifications:
A PhD in Statistics/Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or related mathematics fields is required (ABD considered if degree will be granted by the beginning of employment).

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include the ability to work cooperatively with faculty members in mathematics and engineering/computer science departments. The successful candidate should be capable of establishing an active and sustained research program. We seek an individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills, a record of teaching excellence, a demonstrated commitment to high-quality research that in part involves undergraduates, and an ability to link their research program to their teaching agenda.

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
