Position Description
The Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS) at The University of Notre Dame invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate. The start date is flexible, but ideally before September, 2023. The initial contract is one year, but could be extended.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Neuroscience, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field before their start date. The candidate should also be a proficient programmer with Python experience.
The postdoc will be primarily focused on a project related to metalearning for neuronal network models. Specifically, the postdoc will simulate environments in which agents learn via biologically motivated learning rules that are optimized using gradient-based or evolutionary approaches. Specific applications include the development of new semi-supervised learning algorithms and the discovery and interpretation of biological plasticity rules. The postdoc will also have opportunities to collaborate on other projects in the research group and will have the flexibility to propose and pursue their own research directions in computational neuroscience and/or machine learning.
Qualified candidates will have the option to teach a course in the ACMS department if desired, but teaching is not required.
