The Department of Mathematics at The Florida State University invites applications for a Teaching Faculty I position to begin August 2023.
FSU (www.fsu.edu) is a Top 20 national public university with over 40,000 students at the main campus in Tallahassee (http://talgov.com). The state capital of Tallahassee is located in North Florida, about 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. The city has a low cost of living and easy access to world-famous beaches and pristine natural habitats. The successful candidate will teach two to three large lower-division classes each semester, supervise teaching assistants in charge of lab meetings, and coordinate the administration of a multi-instructor course. Candidates will need organizational and administrative skills and to communicate easily and effectively as part of a team of ten Mathematics Teaching Faculty. The Department seeks candidates with an active interest in improving the effectiveness of teaching methods in large courses, especially to support the success rate of at-risk student populations. The successful candidate will engage in a collaborative effort to develop and implement improved teaching methods that reflect evidence-based instructional best practices, with the support of colleagues and the University's Center for the Advancement of Teaching (teaching.fsu.edu). Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or in a related field (with at least 18 hours of graduate credit in mathematics) from an accredited institution. Candidates should also have a minimum of one year of experience teaching at the college level, preferably including early college mathematics.
