Required Qualifications

Education:
Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics or Applied Mathematics. (PhD candidate with all but dissertation (ABD) status may be considered with expected complete date by September 2023). Please note: reappointment will not be considered without completed doctorate prior to review date.

Experience:
Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach upper-level undergraduate courses in both statistics and mathematics; at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in statistics and/or probability; experience with educational technology; experience with directing undergraduate research projects; experience obtaining external grants or funding; evidence of ability to collaborate with colleagues from other departments; and/or evidence of ability to support an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.

Responsibilities

Teaching
  • Teach and assess learning for courses in statistics and mathematics for mathematics majors and for non-majors.
  • Hold regular office hours and interact with undergraduate students including, academic advisement and mentoring to students with declared majors in the department.
Scholarship/Research
  • Engage in research and other scholarly activities.
Service
  • Provide service to the department and university and engage with the campus community.
Position Summary

The Mathematics Department is housed in the College’s School of Arts and Sciences. There are approximately 100 mathematics majors, about two-thirds of whom are intending to be secondary mathematics teachers. The department has 11 full-time faculty members who teach typically three courses a semester, who are active in scholarship, and who are engaged in departmental and college service. The department would like to expand its offerings and expertise in all statistics-related fields.
