The Department of Mathematics at Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for the position of an Assistant Professorship (W1) for Mathematics – Algebra and Geometry Code No. 660 starting as soon as possible. The position is limited to a period of six years. We seek applicants working in an area relating to the topics of the existing Collaborative Research Center GAUS - Geometry and Arithmetic of Uniformized Structures funded by the German Science Foundation DFG. For the topics covered see the description under crc326gaus.de. Applicants are expected to participate actively as a principal investigator. They should have a research record of relevant scientific publications in international journals. We welcome potential for cooperation with the working group Algebra at the Department of Mathematics at TU Darmstadt, or within the strategic alliance of Rhein-Main Universities (RMU). Experience with the acquisition of third party funding is beneficial. The professorship participates in the teaching of the department. For non-native speakers of German the department will support German courses as offered by the University or externally. It is expected that applicants be able to teach in German within three years after appointment; prior to that, English can be the language of instruction. The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 70 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz); accordingly, the maximum period of scientific activities during and after the doctorate generally shall not exceed nine years or the scientific activity after the doctorate shall not exceed four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate. The position comes without the option of a tenured professorship. The position is limited to a period of six years. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W1 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
