The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track/Tenured faculty position in Applied Mathematics with primary research areas in mathematics of data science, computational methods, mathematical modeling, mathematical biology, or related areas. This position will begin in August 2023. Successful candidates are expected to establish a vigorous program of research in applied mathematics and seek external research funding; to deliver quality undergraduate instruction in Applied Mathematics and graduate education in Biological Data Science; mentor undergraduate students; and to contribute service to the school, college, university and the profession. Faculty may participate in university-wide graduate programs. Faculty in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences have the opportunity to work in a unit that values innovative research and undergraduate education equally while being housed in an R1 university. This has created the opportunity for our diverse student population to obtain individual faculty mentorship on the West Campus of ASU, which provides a close-knit residential campus setting. Essential Functions of the Position: The individual filling this position is expected to establish a vigorous program of research in applied mathematics; to deliver quality instruction in mathematics and related fields; and to contribute service to the school, college, university and the profession. The successful candidate must be prepared to advance the ASU Charter while embedded in the truly interdisciplinary and innovative environment of ASU New College and the West Valley. Qualifications Required Qualifications: • Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Mathematical Biology, or related fields, by time of appointment. Desired Qualifications: • Evidence of potential to complement the current expertise in applied mathematics, or other areas of research in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences. • Evidence of the mathematical expertise to teach core undergraduate courses in the Applied Mathematics BS program and the Biological Data Science MS program. • Evidence of successful college/university teaching and course development experience. • Interest in establishing interdisciplinary research programs. • Practice and interest in mentoring undergraduate students and including them in research. • Established collaborations with industry partners. • Externally funded program of research. • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students. • Evidence of past research activity and the ability to create a research program in: the mathematics of data science, computational methods, mathematical modeling, mathematical biology, or a related area. • Commitment and ability to work with a diverse student population.
