The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in mathematics, with a focus on statistics, starting in August 2023. The successful candidate will join an engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in Applied Mathematics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Data Science, and Laboratory Science.

The school seeks candidates to teach courses in statistics, introductory mathematics, and upper-level courses in statistics for applied mathematics and data science majors and minors. Candidates with expertise in data science will be given additional consideration. The standard teaching load is 9 credits per semester. The candidate is expected to develop an active, independent research program involving undergraduate students that results in peer-reviewed publications supported by external funding. The successful candidate will also participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the university.

A Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or closely related field is required. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral training or equivalent professional experience. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
