Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics; demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching; evidence of critical, reflective thinking about the teaching and learning of mathematics, and promise of continued professional growth in teaching and scholarship. Candidates must have strong teaching recommendations, commitment to teaching using demonstrably effective methods of instruction and assessment; demonstrated interest in continuing research and publication, and service to the Department and to the University. The department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching, scholarship, and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities:

Candidates are expected to participate, consistent with their expertise, in the teaching and ongoing development of the mathematics curriculum. Duties each semester include 12 hours teaching load with additional responsibilities in scholarship, and service. Candidates are expected to maintain an active program of scholarly development, broadly defined in the Department and College. Employment begins August 2023.

Department:

Iona University and the Department of Mathematics & Physics emphasize teaching excellence. The department offers an undergraduate major and minor in mathematics, a minor in Physics, along with other childhood and adolescence mathematics education degrees on the undergraduate level. The Department also offers courses in support of other undergraduate majors, the general education program, and graduate programs in adolescence mathematics education. The department is committed to creating a student-centered learning environment and to engaging students in mathematics beyond the classroom. Faculty in the department use diverse teaching methods including the use of technology. Class sizes are small with all core classes having 25 or fewer students. Computer facilities are extensive, and many classrooms include network access with overhead digital projectors and full audio and visual capabilities. Faculty members in the department pursue a broad range of scholarship including: traditional research in mathematics; research with undergraduates; the scholarship of teaching; textbook and software development; and the writing and implementation of internal, state, and national proposals and grants.
