Job Summary

We are searching for a leader of the new AI Bootcamp program at Caltech (the ABC). The mission of the program is to ensure that every scientist at Caltech has access to efficient training in the most up-to-date AI methods that they need to pursue their science. The AI Bootcamp Leader will survey the needs of Caltech scientists, organize bootcamps experimenting with different formats (topics, number of days, bring-your-data, etc.) and organization styles (faculty speakers, graduate student tutorials, hands-on teaching, project-driven learning), and partner with tech companies who are developing AI tools to organize hands-on instruction. This is a three year term position.

Essential Job Duties

Reporting to the Chair of the CMS Department, the AI Bootcamp Leader will be responsible for the implementation and success of the program and will have oversight from a small steering committee composed of Caltech faculty.
  • Survey the needs of Caltech scientists, organize bootcamps, teach, hire, train and manage other instructors, partner with tech companies who are developing AI tools to organize hands-on instruction.
  • Experiment with different formats (topics, number of days, bring-your-data, etc.) and organization styles (faculty speakers, graduate student tutorials, hands-on teaching, and project-driven learning) to achieve maximum impact.
  • The ABC program will adopt the highest standards in diversity, equity and inclusion.

Basic Qualifications
  • MS in Computer Science or related field or higher.
  • Broad knowledge of AI methods (including Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, Natural Language Processing and related fields).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI methods (in industry or science).
  • Demonstrated ability and passion for teaching, and demonstrated leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Computer Science or related field.

Required Documents
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Cover Letter: Describe why you are interested in the position. Please also describe your training and experience in applying methods of artificial intelligence to science and/or industry. Target length: 1 - 2 pages.
  • Teaching Statement: Include teaching interests and teaching and mentoring experience. Target length: 1 - 2 pages.
  • Teaching Evaluations. A selection of recent teaching evaluations received either as a teaching assistant or as an instructor of record.
  • Teaching Video. A video of your teaching. Please provide a link to a site where the video is hosted. This link should be provided in a PDF document and uploaded.
  • Statement on Contributions to Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). A narrative of salient observations, activities and accomplishments to date. Target length: 1 - 2 pages.
  • Reference Letters. Three to five letters of reference. Confidential letters of recommendation should be emailed to employment@caltech.edu. Emails should include the applicant's name and the position title, AI Bootcamp Leader. Recommenders providing letters of reference should submit them as early as possible, preferably by 12/23/2022.
