The Department of Applied Mathematics at Ecole Polytechnique is likely to recruit a full time Monge Assistant Professor in Data Centric Engineering starting on September, 1st, 2023.

This offer is based on the observation of an unprecedented growth of complexity in modeling and predictive simulation of industrial and scientific applications. The availability and use of large sets of data (numerical and experimental) and of new generations of computational architectures require a vivid interaction between the domains of computational sciences and data sciences. Within this broader vision Data Centric Engineering (DCE) aims at developing and delivering a novel synthesis of approaches to engineering design and operation which leverage various mathematical fields (modeling, numerical analysis, HPC, uncertainty quantification, control, optimization, statistics, machine learning).

The CMAP is a leading center in these fields, and aims at building the mathematical and statistical foundations of future data-driven engineering.

A PhD in Applied Mathematics / Statistics / Machine Learning or related fields is required. Great importance will be placed on the candidate's ability to work in a team environment.

He/She will conduct his/her research at CMAP and within the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Center Hi! Paris. The candidate will be required to present a detailed scientific project demonstrating how his/her research will strengthen research in DCE (he/she is strongly encouraged to contact CMAP members to discuss the research project).

He/She must be able to contribute to the teaching of applied mathematics, statistics, and machine learning at all levels of training (Bachelor, Polytechnic Engineering Cycle, Master or even MOOC and Executive Education). He/She will have to be integrated into the pedagogical teams of the fundamental courses of applied mathematics and the more specialized courses. His/her capacity to contribute to project-based teaching and to strengthen the links between teaching, research and applications will be an important point.

Ecole Polytechnique offers an exceptional environment, with a reduced teaching load, as well as the support (scientific, administrative and budgetary) of the CMAP and financial support from the Hi! Paris center ("welcome package") for the preparation of an “habilitation à diriger des recherches”.
